Bloody Wednesday

Ahhhh, nothing like a good blood letting of the company to top out an otherwise wonderful week.
I've been through many Bloody Wednesdays and Black Fridays throughout my life in Corporate America. Aside from the 2 layoffs due to buy outs, I remained unscathed through each one. Just lucky I guess....
Regardless, it doesn't make the day any easier seeing people be escorted out.
What I don't understand is why companies don't do like Unions do and request everyone to take a pay cut before resorting to chopping staff. I know most would take a cut.
Or even have a "voting of the island" process.
Why do I suggest the voting out process? Because a lot of the people that were let go yesterday had many many years with the company and were GOOD employees. How do I know that? Because they were "go to" people. I have under 2 years with this company and I learned very quickly who were the awesome people in IT and who were pains in the ass. These people got the job done and done right.
There are contractors on those goofy ass visas that are still there. There are consultants still there. Yet GOOD people got chopped. I really don't understand that.
I will be curious to see what happens to the contractors and consultants. Aside from layoffs, they are taking away our 401k match and no one is getting a merit increase in 2009. Ok, well I want to see these special visa contractors go away before you start taking MY stuff away.
I've said it before and I say it again, the downfall of the United States is Corporate America, it's greed, deceit and unethical ways of doing business.
It's very unfortunate, as I like my job. I like working for a big company. =(
